Pop can Chicken:


Ingredients:
  • 1 whole chicken
  • 1(16 ounce) caned soda
  • 3 tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 1 ½ tablespoon of salt
  • 3 ½ of brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon of thyme leaves
  • 1 tablespoon of black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons of dried sage
  • 1 15- ounce of ketch-up
  • 1 cup of cider vinegar
  • 6 tablespoons of mustard

Dry Rub:

  • 2 teaspoons of dried sage
  • 2 teaspoons of cayenne pepper
  • 1 tablespoon of celery salt
  • 1 tablespoon of black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon of thyme leaves

BBQ sauces:

  • 1 1/3 cups of firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 15- ounce of ketch-up
  • 1 cup of cider vinegar
  • 6 tablespoons of mustard
  • 1-teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper

Directions:

  1. Remove the fat from the inside of the body
  2. Clean the chicken and dry with paper towels
  3. Place chicken on its side in a bowl and pour half of the soda on the chicken
  4. Cover it, for 45 minutes, and place in refrigerator, turn over twice
  5. Make sure each breast marinate for 15 minutes
  6. Remove from marinating then pat dry
  7. sprinkle 2 teaspoons of rub inside the chicken and 1 teaspoon inside neck
  8. Rub your dry rub on the chicken; make sure you rub it everywhere on it
  9. If you want you can put some of your rub under the skin of the chicken
  10. sprinkle the remains of the rub into the can of soda
  11. pick up the chicken right side up and open the body and place can into the body
  12. Keep the temperature at around 180
  13. It may take 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hours to get the chicken completed
  14. If cooking with a can use tongs to hold the chicken by the can carefully
  15. Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes
  16. Carefully pull the can out (take care not to spill the hot soda on you)
